Brookhaven News, Updates and Resources  The Brookhaven Blast Brookhaven News, Updates and Resources CITY OF BROOKHAVEN NEWS Brookhaven to cut ribbon on new Public Safety Building The public is cordially invited to the ribbon cutting of Brookhaven’s new Public Safety Building at 1793 Briarwood Road on Friday, July 28, at 10 a.m. The ribbon cutting kicks off the transition of public safety services into the new facility, including Municipal Court, Police and Emergency Management.  While the move-in begins immediately, due to previously scheduled Municipal Court dates in the existing location, full utilization of the building will be complete this fall. More info here. Two Brookhaven Police lieutenants complete rigorous management program Brookhaven announces the recent graduations of two Brookhaven Police lieutenants from Northwestern University’s Center for Public Safety School of Police Staff & Command (SPSC), an academically rigorous full-time, 10-week management program for public safety professionals. Lt. Abrem Ayana and Lt. Patrick Bolls successfully completed the program as a member of SPSC Class #544, which was held in Atlanta, GA from Feb. 13 – June 16, this year. More info here. Summer edition of Brookhaven City News available now The Summer edition of Brookhaven City News is available in English and Spanish. Brookhaven Parks & Recreation Summer Activity Guide available now Brookhaven Parks and Recreation Department's Summer Activity Guide is available for download now in English and Spanish. To have a copy mailed to your home, email News@BrookhavenGa.gov Front Yard Tree Program takes root in Brookhaven Back by popular demand, Brookhaven is once again partnering with Trees Atlanta to sponsor the Front Yard Tree Program.  In this partnership, Trees Atlanta will plant up to 80 trees. Homeowners can choose one of five varieties of White oak, Overcup oak, Willow oak, River Birch and Sycamore, all between six and eight feet in height. Trees Atlanta will plant the tree and provide the initial mulching and watering and include a two-year replacement guarantee. Beginning immediately, residents can apply at www.treesatlanta.org/yardtree and select “Brookhaven,” while quantities last. Continuing last year’s promotion, there is no application fee for Brookhaven residents.  More info here. Future Brookhaven City Hall project information The future Brookhaven City Hall will be a gathering space for conducting the people’s business, to celebrate as a community, exchange ideas, and serve as a focal point and NorthStar for the City of Brookhaven within the Atlanta metropolitan area. The Brookhaven City Hall will be located at the corner of Peachtree Road and North Druid Hills Road on the existing long-term MARTA parking lot. Click here for more information. Brookhaven 10-Year Anniversary Edition celebrates City's history Check out the December issue of Reporter Newspaper's special City of Brookhaven 10th anniversary edition. UPCOMING CITY EVENTS & MEETINGS New Lynwood Park pool and splash pad official ribbon-cutting ceremony this Saturday The community is invited to a ribbon-cutting celebration for Lynwood Park’s new pool and splash pad on Saturday, July 22, at 10 a.m. (3360 Osborne Rd NE, Brookhaven, GA 30319). The pool and splash pad opened to the public on Saturday, June 17, just in time for summer. More info here. Brookhaven Park dog park closed during construction Brookhaven Park's dog park and dog park parking lot will be closed for construction beginning Monday, July 31. The improvement project is scheduled to take 10 months. The front parking lot and open green space and lawn area will remain open during construction. Peachtree Road resurfacing project begins in DeKalb from Fulton County line to I-285 Contractors for the Georgia Dept. of Transportation (GDOT) have begun a resurfacing project on Peachtree Road from the Fulton/DeKalb County line to I-285 in DeKalb.
