Brookhaven News, Updates and Resources The Brookhaven Blast Brookhaven News, Updates and Resources CITY OF BROOKHAVEN NEWS Langford Park dedicated to war veteran Langford Park, located at 1174 Pine Grove Ave., officially opened to the public on May 31 and was dedicated to the late Robert C. "Bob" Langford this week with many of his family members in attendance (pictured above with District 3 Councilwoman Madeleine Simmons and District 4 Councilman John Funny. The ceremony honored Langford, for whom the park is named. The land once belonged to the family of Langford, who had grown up in the family home formerly on the site. Langford Park is a tribute to the fallen local war hero, lost in Vietnam half a century ago, as well as other members of the armed services who lost their lives in combat. More info here. View video of ceremony here. Parks Bond News The Lynwood Park splashpad, lap pool, (above) and synthetic turf field (below) are nearing completion. Final touches and permitting inspections should be completed within the next few days. Pay close attention for the opening date and upcoming celebration information. Bids have been received for the Brookhaven Park improvements and are currently being evaluated for award. Construction on the dog park, restrooms, pavilion, and new parking lot will begin mid-summer. The Murphey Candler Park Lake House is currently out for bid to select a contractor for construction. Construction on the Lake House and new parking lot can be expected to start in late summer. Construction plans for the Briarwood Park Improvements will be advertised for bid later this month. More Parks Bond information here. LaVista Park community to get millage rate decrease With improved roads, sidewalks, and stormwater facilities now in place, Brookhaven’s most recently annexed community will also enjoy a millage rate cut this year, and next year. The LaVista Park Special Tax District is 675 parcels totaling 264.28 acres and believed to be the largest annexation in Georgia history using the resident-driven 60 percent method. When the LaVista Park community annexed into the City of Brookhaven in December 2019, property owners did not see an immediate decrease in their tax millage rate. Full story here. Brookhaven to hold public hearings for 2023 millage rate Residents are encouraged to attend upcoming public hearings for the 2023 millage rate. Anyone who wants to attend and or participate can do so in person or virtually via Zoom. The meetings will be held Tuesday, June 13, at 7 p.m. and Wednesday, June 28 at 10:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. at City Hall at 4362 Peachtree Road, Brookhaven. More info here. Brookhaven Parks & Recreation Summer Activity Guide available now Brookhaven Parks and Recreation Department's Summer Activity Guide is available for download now in English and Spanish. To have a copy mailed to your home, email News@BrookhavenGa.gov Front Yard Tree Program takes root in Brookhaven Back by popular demand, Brookhaven is once again partnering with Trees Atlanta to sponsor the Front Yard Tree Program. In this partnership, Trees Atlanta will plant up to 80 trees. Homeowners can choose one of five varieties of White oak, Overcup oak, Willow oak, River Birch and Sycamore, all between six and eight feet in height. Trees Atlanta will plant the tree and provide the initial mulching and watering and include a two-year replacement guarantee. Beginning immediately, residents can apply at www.treesatlanta.org/yardtree and select “Brookhaven,” while quantities last. Continuing last year’s promotion, there is no application fee for Brookhaven residents. More info here. Future Brookhaven City Hall project information The future Brookhaven City Hall will be a gathering space for conducting the people’s business, to celebrate as a community, exchange ideas, and serve as a focal point and NorthStar for the City of Brookhaven within the Atlanta metropolitan area.
