Brookhaven’s Parks and Recreation Department invites dogs of all sizes to make a splash this summer at its annual Doggy Dip Day at Murphey Candler Pool, located along Candler Lake W NE, Saturday, Sept. 9, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. More info about Doggy Dip Day here. While the pools are done for the year, the Ashford Park Splash Pad at 2980 Redding Road NE, will remain open through Sept. 30, Tuesday – Sunday 10 a.m. – 8:30 p.m. (closed Mondays), weather conditions permitting. Brookhaven Comprehensive Plan 10-Year update kicks off The City officially kicked off the 10-year update to Brookhaven’s Comprehensive Plan via a public hearing before City Council at its Aug. 22 regular meeting. The hearing was preceded by a brief overview of the plan update process and ways for the public to get involved. With a focus on future growth and development, this long-range plan establishes the City’s vision for future land use, defines related short-term community needs and opportunities, and creates a clear path to achieve the City’s goals. During the planning process, the City will work with community members to explore topics that impact future land use and development, including housing options, economic development, sustainability initiatives, transportation and walkability, infrastructure needs, and more! The City is busy preparing for citywide community engagement opportunities this fall. Want to learn more and participate in future events? Notice of General Election and Qualifying Fees The date of the Municipal Election for the seats of Mayor and Council Districts 1, 2, and 3 is Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2023. Qualifying dates for the District 2 Special Election are Monday, Sept. 11,-Wednesday, Sept.13, 2023, between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., and 1:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. More info here. Front Yard Tree Program takes root in Brookhaven Back by popular demand, Brookhaven is once again partnering with Trees Atlanta to sponsor the Front Yard Tree Program. In this partnership, Trees Atlanta will plant up to 80 trees. Homeowners can choose one of five varieties of White oak, Overcup oak, Willow oak, River Birch and Sycamore, all between six and eight feet in height. Trees Atlanta will plant the tree and provide the initial mulching and watering and include a two-year replacement guarantee. Beginning immediately, residents can apply at www.treesatlanta.org/yardtree and select “Brookhaven,” while quantities last. Continuing last year’s promotion, there is no application fee for Brookhaven residents. More info here. Future Brookhaven City Hall News & Updates The future Brookhaven City Hall will be a gathering space for conducting the people’s business, to celebrate as a community, exchange ideas, and serve as a focal point and NorthStar for the City of Brookhaven within the Atlanta metropolitan area. The Brookhaven City Hall will be located at the corner of Peachtree Road and North Druid Hills Road on the existing long-term MARTA parking lot.
