The fun-filled event included a winter playground, Girl Scout hot chocolate sale, food, musical performances, live reindeer, arts and crafts, train rides and giveaways leading up to the dramatic arrival of Santa, once again via the Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta helicopter, and the lighting of the City’s dazzling 40’ Christmas tree, menorah and dreidel.  City Hall accepting Toys for Tots donations Residents can drop off donations for Toys for Tots through Wednesday, Dec. 20, at City Hall, 4362 Peachtree Road, Mondays through Fridays between 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. The following are guidelines from Toys for Tots: • New and unwrapped toys appropriate for boys and girls from newborn to 12 years old are welcomed. • Program administrators note that they always run short of toys for ages 0 to 2 and 10 and older. Suggested toys for older children include makeup kits, hair dryers, watches, colognes, perfumes, basketballs, footballs and other sporting equipment. • Bicycles are always in very high demand, and supplies never meet this demand. Please keep in mind that a bicycle cannot be distributed without a helmet. ‘Mondays With Madeleine’ virtual town hall to feature year-end update with Mayor John Ernst The public is invited to join District 3 Councilwoman Madeleine Simmons for the December 2023 edition of her “Mondays With Madeleine” town hall. This month’s town hall will be held Monday, Dec. 18, from 6 to 7 p.m. via video conference, and will be broadcast on Facebook Live on the City’s Facebook page at www.Facebook.com/BrookhavenGAgov.  “Please join me for District 3 updates as well as a look back at 2023 with Mayor John Ernst,” said Councilwoman Simmons. City of Brookhaven plans future paving program, reflects on massive progress The City of Brookhaven recently announced its future paving program, while reflecting on the massive infrastructure progress that’s taken place in recent years. Since 2016, Brookhaven has paved nearly 200 streets and approximately 76 lane miles. The proposed 2024-2026 paving program will add nearly 80 streets to that list. More info here. Estonian delegation visits Brookhaven Members of the Estonian Parliament (above, seated) visited last week with Brookhaven City staff, including (above, standing) Assistant City Manager Patrice Ruffin Dowdell, Deputy City Clerk Susan Hiott, Executive Assistant Sheila Hayes, Human Resources Manager Melissa Brown, and (below, at right) City Manager Christian Sigman.. The visit was part of a federally funded program facilitated by the U.S. Embassy that identifies rising elected officials in the former Soviet Union to teach them how all levels of government work. Brookhaven Winter newsletter available now The Winter edition of Brookhaven City News is now available for download and in the December issue of Reporter Newspapers. Multimodal Study public input period extended to March 2024 Due to a high volume of community feedback regarding Brookhaven’s Multimodal Study, the public input process has been extended through March 1, 2024. The Multimodal Study will serve as an update to the City’s first Bicycle, Pedestrian, and Trail Plan, which was adopted in 2016. The plan examined existing conditions and identified locations where improvements for bicyclists and pedestrians were most needed with an expanded multimodal focus. More info here. Peachtree Creek Greenway North Druid Hills entrance temporarily closed The Peachtree Creek Greenway entrance point at 2036 North Druid Hills Road is closed until further notice due to DeKalb County's work on sewer lines and the I-85 at North Druid Hills project. Greenway patrons can park and enter at the other trailheads at 1801 Corporate Blvd. and 1793 Briarwood Road. Briarwood Recreation Center closed for park renovations With the Brookhaven City Council’s approval Sept. 12 of one of the final Park Bond construction contracts, Briarwood Recreation Center is closed for park renovations. The rec center is closed until late spring for parking lot and stormwater work. The Briarwood Way entrance is permanently closed. Enter the park through the main entrance on Briarwood Road.  During construction, the park drive will be closed below the tennis courts. The playground and tennis courts will remain open during construction.
