Brookhaven News, Updates and Resources The Brookhaven Blast Brookhaven News, Updates and Resources CITY OF BROOKHAVEN NEWS “Wings of the City” exhibition by world-renowned Mexican artist comes to Brookhaven The City of Brookhaven has finalized details to become the next host of a mobile sculpture exhibit by internationally acclaimed Mexican artist Jorge Marin. The “Wings of the City” mobile art exhibition is comprised of a collection of nine bronze sculptures, that will be displayed in different locations around Brookhaven. The City Council approved funding to bring the exhibition to Brookhaven, during its March 22 business meeting, and announced that Explore Brookhaven has pledged $10,000 to offset exhibition expenses. The exhibition is the first planned event by the Brookhaven Arts and Culture Commission since Brookhaven designated the Buford Highway Cultural Corridor in January. The City and its Arts and Culture Commission are collaborating with the Jorge Marín Foundation and the Consulate General of Mexico in Atlanta to final details and installation locations. More info here. Brookhaven hosting Easter Egg-straveganzas After a two-year Coronavirus hiatus, Peter Rabbit returns heading to Brookhaven for a series of fun events for families. On Saturday, April 9 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. the Eggstraordinary Easter Egg Hunt will be held at Lynwood Park, 3360 Osborne Road. This event will provide special considerations for visually and hearing-impaired youngsters as well as those in wheelchairs and children who are sensory-sensitive. On Saturday, April 9 at 2 p.m., another special event, the Dog Gone Easter Egg Hunt will be held at the Blackburn Park Softball Fields, 3493 Ashford Dunwoody Road. The Dog Gone Easter Egg Hunt is for all residents and their fur babies. Specially prepared Easter eggs, containing pet treats, will be hidden throughout the dog run. On Saturday, April 16 beginning at 10 a.m. sharp, the annual Easter Egg Scramble will be open to all Brookhaven youngsters, at Blackburn Park, 3493 Ashford Dunwoody Road. The Easter Egg Scramble will feature food trucks offering breakfast fare at reasonable prices, and the Easter Bunny will be on hand again to pose for photos. Egg hunters will be split into age groups (3 and under; 4-6, and 7+) with separate areas for each. More info here. Brookhaven hosting open house for Dresden Drive improvements Join the City of Brookhaven for an opportunity to view and provide feedback on draft recommendations and considerations for the Dresden Drive Intersection Improvement Study. These reflect newly collected data, assumptions about all potential and planned developments along Dresden Drive, and the revised analysis. In this partnership, Trees Atlanta will plant up to 40 trees (max. 2 per household) in the front yards of Brookhaven residents. Homeowners can choose one of six varieties of oak; Tupelo, River birch, Tulip poplar, American sycamore or Bald cypress, all between six and eight feet in height. Trees Atlanta will plant the tree and provide the initial mulching and watering and include a two-year replacement guarantee. More information here. Brookhaven congratulates CARY KING! Brookhaven's very own Cary King is recognized and honored by the Atlanta Braves as a Hometown Hero on Friday, April 8. Those in the know, know that Cary served in the 1st Infantry Division in Vietnam, and was awarded 5 Bronze Stars, a Purple Heart, 5 Air Medals and a variety of other medals and awards for courage and valor. In addition to his distinguished law practice and tireless work is support of veterans, Cary also served his community on the Brookhaven Planning Commission.
