Brookhaven News, Updates and Resources  The Brookhaven Blast Brookhaven News, Updates and Resources CITY OF BROOKHAVEN NEWS City of Brookhaven Easter Egg hunts canceled Due to the inclement weather forecast this weekend, the City of Brookhaven is cancelling the following Easter Egg hunts, originally planned for Blackburn Park:   Eggstraordinary Easter Egg Hunt Easter Egg Scramble Dog-gone Egg Hunt   The City apologizes for any inconvenience and wishes everyone a happy and safe Easter weekend. Progress and promotion continue for Brookhaven’s new City Hall Brookhaven’s new City Hall is making headway, as the most recent design progress was presented at the March 28 City Council work session at the 50% design development benchmark. In the presentation, the Mayor and Council received updates on the public feedback to date. Among other things, the feedback indicated the community’s visual preferences and strong support for the planned community spaces that bring the people together. “The feedback has been crucial as we move forward with the design. This building will be the ‘People’s House’ and should reflect the vision of the community as a whole,” said Mayor John Ernst. Full story here. Future Brookhaven City Hall project information The future Brookhaven City Hall will be a gathering space for conducting the people’s business, to celebrate as a community, exchange ideas, and serve as a focal point and NorthStar for the City of Brookhaven within the Atlanta metropolitan area. The Brookhaven City Hall will be located at the corner of Peachtree Road and North Druid Hills Road on the existing long-term MARTA parking lot. Click here for more information. Brookhaven joins forces with Leadership Perimeter The City of Brookhaven has partnered with Leadership Perimeter to develop and inspire leaders to serve their communities for a lifetime. Applications for the Class of 2024 are now being accepted. The City of Brookhaven will initially provide tuition for five Brookhaven residents to participate in the 2024 Class of Leadership Perimeter.  More information here. Brookhaven establishes Osborne Nursery to create free foliage and increase tree canopy The City of Brookhaven has established a nursery at Osborne Park to cultivate indigenous trees, which will ultimately be given to Brookhaven residents and developers at no cost to preserve Brookhaven’s tree canopy. “These trees will be available once they reach a certain level of maturity,” said Brookhaven Arborist Jeff Dadisman. “Almost all of these trees are large growing species- to be grown at the nursery for a few years and then released to Brookhaven residents free of charge.” Full story here. Local leader Cassandra Bryant celebrated by Congressman Hank Johnson during Women’s History Month Cassandra Bryant, a titan of Brookhaven’s Lynwood Park community, was celebrated alongside many other women by Congressman Hank Johnson for her dedication to the community. The event, Trailblazers, was held on Sunday, March 26, where 17 pioneering women were honored. These women come from all different backgrounds, but their commonality is rooting their leadership in their respective communities, enacting change. Read more here. In this partnership, Trees Atlanta will plant up to 80 trees. Homeowners can choose one of five varieties of White oak, Overcup oak, Willow oak, River Birch and Sycamore, all between six and eight feet in height. Trees Atlanta will plant the tree and provide the initial mulching and watering and include a two-year replacement guarantee. Beginning immediately, residents can apply at www.treesatlanta.org/yardtree and select “Brookhaven,” while quantities last. Continuing last year’s promotion, there is no application fee for Brookhaven residents.  More info here.
