Brookhaven News, Updates and Resources  The Brookhaven Blast Brookhaven News, Updates and Resources CITY OF BROOKHAVEN NEWS City of Brookhaven recognized with Sustainability Award from the Georgia Public Service Commission Georgia Public Service Commission Vice Chairman Tim Echols presented the City of Brookhaven Mayor Ernst with an Energy Matters Award in the "Best EV Municipal Energy Efficiency" category, on Wednesday, Aug. 3. The award recognizes some of the milestones the City of Brookhaven has accomplished through its Sustainable Brookhaven strategy framework. "It is an honor to be recognized with the Best EV Municipal Efficiency award," said City of Brookhaven Major John Ernst. "The City of Brookhaven is making a great effort to improve its sustainability in all areas and this award only validates the work we are doing. We're committed to creating a more sustainable future for our community, one that not only allows us to protect the environment, but also saves costs, resources, and our constituents money." Langford Park groundbreaking set for Aug. 11 The public is invited to Langford Park, 1174 Pine Grove Ave., on Aug. 11 at 4 p.m. for a special groundbreaking for the new features being added to the park. “We will be adding a new playground, Bocce Ball court, and sheltered pavilion,” said District 3 Councilmember Madeleine Simmons. “We will also install walking trails that accentuate the natural green space areas where families can enjoy these neighborhood amenities.” More info here. Community celebrates National Night Out The Brookhaven Police Department celebrated its National Night Out with the community this week at Northeast Plaza. The event offered food, fun and games for the kids, and a chance to hang out with and learn more about the department. ROAD CLOSURES & TRAFFIC ALERTS UPDATE: Emergency Bridge/Road Closure on W. Nancy Creek Drive ***UPDATE JULY 12, 2022: Based on an evaluation of the bridge by a structural engineer, it has been determined the bridge needs to be replaced. Estimated time frame for this work is 12 months. Work will require the relocation of a gas line and a waterline which could impact schedule. The new bridge will include improved pedestrian facilities.*** Effective immediately, the bridge near 1243 W. Nancy Creek Drive in Brookhaven is closed to vehicular and pedestrian traffic. On Friday, July 1, GDOT engineers discovered severe structural issues with the bridge while conducting a routine inspection. The bridge will be closed for an extended period of time while emergency repairs are made.   Residents on the west side of the bridge must access the neighborhood from Old Johnson Ferry Road until further notice. Commuters using W. Nancy Creek Road to travel between Ashford Dunwoody Road and Sandy Springs must detour via Johnson Ferry Road or I-285.   Updates will be posted on social media and on the Public Works website at www.BrookhavenGA.gov/PublicWorks as they become available.   We appreciate everyone’s patience and support while these critical repairs are made.
