Public Safety Building construction update The future Public Safety Building is the City’s biggest capital project to date and first building construction, scheduled to open in Summer 2022 along the Peachtree Creek Greenway (PCG). The new building will be 33,000 square feet with room for 168 parking stations in the parking lot. The City’s first fully functional Emergency Operations Center will be housed in the building along with a full-building generator. The building will also feature a number of environmentally sustainable features. See video above for some recent construction scenes. Public Safety Building construction update The City of Brookhaven and the Brookhaven Police Department have posted informational public service announcements about the dangers of celebratory gunfire on social media platforms. “At a time of heightened concerns about gun violence around the nation, it’s a timely reminder that any reckless gunplay can have deadly consequences,” said Brookhaven Police Chief Gary Yandura. The link to the English video is here: The link to the Spanish video is here: Brookhaven's MLK Day program rescheduled for Feb. 26 Brookhaven’s MLK Day Dinner and Program has been rescheduled for Saturday, Feb. 26, at noon at the Brookhaven MARTA station parking lot, 1268 Apple Valley Road NE. Dresden Drive webpage updated; tentative project completion schedule below Based upon community feedback, Brookhaven is revamping the Dresden Intersection Analysis study, currently underway. The enhanced project scope will address revised development assumptions, multiple growth assumptions, and a review of potential bicycle facilities. We have updated the project website for this effort. The updated page includes the dates for the remainder of the project and some additional documents outlining the path forward. Tentative project completion schedule: New traffic counts - week of 01/24/2022. - Completed Public meeting to present new data and assumptions will be virtual - week of 03/03/2022. City Council renews sponsorship of Front Yard Tree Program Back by popular demand, Brookhaven is once again partnering with Trees Atlanta to sponsor the Front Yard Tree Program. In this partnership, Trees Atlanta will plant up to 40 trees (max. 2 per household) in the front yards of Brookhaven residents. Homeowners can choose one of six varieties of oak; Tupelo, River birch, Tulip poplar, American sycamore or Bald cypress, all between six and eight feet in height. Trees Atlanta will plant the tree and provide the initial mulching and watering and include a two-year replacement guarantee. More information here. UPCOMING CITY EVENTS & MEETINGS 2022 Brookhaven Cherry Blossom Festival: March 26-27 The City of Brookhaven announces the 2022 Brookhaven Cherry Blossom Festival, taking place Saturday and Sunday, March 26-27, at Blackburn Park, 3493 Ashford Dunwoody Road in Brookhaven. Admission is free. Joan Jett and the Blackhearts are the concert headliners and will take the stage Saturday, March 26. Additional performers will be announced soon. This year’s festival will also bring back favorites such as the Artists’ Market, Kidz Zone, Pet World, Classic Car Show, and food trucks. The Brookhaven Cherry Blossom 5K will take place on Saturday, March 19. ROAD CLOSURES & TRAFFIC ALERTS Dresden Drive road closures delayed due to weather The Dresden Drive nighttime closures scheduled for this past week were postponed due to weather conditions and will be rescheduled. Contractors will be installing lights on the pedestrian signal crosswalk signs and lights on the roadway for improved visibility when the signals are activated. Click here
