Brookhaven News, Updates and Resources The Brookhaven Blast Brookhaven News, Updates and Resources CITY OF BROOKHAVEN NEWS Brookhaven Police celebrate 10th anniversary The Brookhaven Police Department, established on July 31, 2013, marked its 10th anniversary this week with a raising of the colors at the new Public Safety Building. Brookhaven Police Chief Brandon Gurley also unveiled the new badge, commemorating the occasion. The new badge, which features the Peachtree Creek Greenway and the city's Cherry Blossom trees, was designed in collaboration with police command staff. The badge is flanked by the American Flag, the Georgia State Flag, and three stars that represent Honor, Courage, and Integrity. Brookhaven Police Department announcement: Parks Bond News: Brookhaven Park under construction The contractor has mobilized to begin work in Brookhaven Park. The dog park area will be closed during construction of the park improvements. The front of the park on Peachtree Road will remain open with parking in the front lot for access. Brookhaven Pools and Splash Pads Open through Labor Day The City of Brookhaven announces that City pools will be open on a modified schedule from Aug. 6 through Labor Day, Sept. 4. The pools listed below will be open only on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Open through Sept. 4 Murphey Candler Pool, 1551 West Nancy Creek Drive, Brookhaven. Lynwood Park Pool and Splash Pad, 3360 Osborne Rd NE, Brookhaven. Briarwood Park Pool, 2235 Briarwood Way NE, Brookhaven. On Labor Day, Sept. 4, all pools will be open from 12 – 6 p.m. Ashford Park Splash Pad The Ashford Park Splash Pad at 2980 Redding Road NE, Brookhaven will remain open through Sept. 30, Tuesday – Sunday 10 a.m. – 8:30 p.m. (closed Mondays) For more information on pool fees, season passes, hours of operation, and pool and splash pad rentals, visit https://www.brookhavenga.gov/parksrec/page/aquatic-programs-and-information. Front Yard Tree Program takes root in Brookhaven Back by popular demand, Brookhaven is once again partnering with Trees Atlanta to sponsor the Front Yard Tree Program. In this partnership, Trees Atlanta will plant up to 80 trees. Homeowners can choose one of five varieties of White oak, Overcup oak, Willow oak, River Birch and Sycamore, all between six and eight feet in height. Trees Atlanta will plant the tree and provide the initial mulching and watering and include a two-year replacement guarantee. Beginning immediately, residents can apply at www.treesatlanta.org/yardtree and select “Brookhaven,” while quantities last. Continuing last year’s promotion, there is no application fee for Brookhaven residents. More info here. Future Brookhaven City Hall News & Updates The future Brookhaven City Hall will be a gathering space for conducting the people’s business, to celebrate as a community, exchange ideas, and serve as a focal point and NorthStar for the City of Brookhaven within the Atlanta metropolitan area. The Brookhaven City Hall will be located at the corner of Peachtree Road and North Druid Hills Road on the existing long-term MARTA parking lot. ROAD CLOSURES & ALERTS Victoria St. and Mae Ave. street closure The intersection of Victoria St. and Mae Ave. will be closed to all vehicular and pedestrian traffic on Monday, Aug. 7, 9 a.m.-2 p.m., for the Brookhaven Public Works Department to safely remove a hazardous dead tree. Johnson Ferry repaving in progress This summer's repaving project on Johnson Ferry Road has begun. Peachtree Road resurfacing project begins in DeKalb from Fulton County line to I-285 Contractors for the Georgia Dept. of Transportation (GDOT) have begun a resurfacing project on Peachtree Road from the Fulton/DeKalb County line to I-285 in DeKalb. Traffic on /Peachtree Road may be impacted by overnight and weekend lane closures related to this project. This project is scheduled for completion in Q1 2024, weather and on-site conditions permitting. Lanier Drive scheduled for storm sewer repair Lanier Drive at 3016 Lanier is scheduled for storm sewer repair and will require closing the road. The schedule of the storm sewer work is Monday, July 24, through Aug. 4, 2023 (weather permitting the critical components of the work).
