Brookhaven News, Updates and Resources The Brookhaven Blast Brookhaven News, Updates and Resources CITY OF BROOKHAVEN NEWS Brookhaven calls for a referendum for Merry Hills/Toco Hills area At a Special Called Meeting on June 30, the Brookhaven City Council approved a resolution calling for Dekalb County’s consent to a referendum vote in areas near the City’s southern border that are already working on annexation applications. "We heard that people want keep neighborhoods together and have a vote on this issue,” said Brookhaven Mayor John Ernst. “Thus, Brookhaven City Council and I take up DeKalb County’s suggestion and we urge the County to put the annexation on the ballot this fall." Brookhaven earns 'City of Civility' designation District 4 Councilman John Funny recently accepted the "City of Civility' designation from the Georgia Municipal Association on behalf of the City of Brookhaven. To become a City of Civility, a municipality must commit to nine pillars of civility and adopt a resolution pledging to promote and follow them. More information here. To have a copy mailed to your home, email News@BrookhavenGa.gov Front Yard Tree Program takes root in Brookhaven Back by popular demand, Brookhaven is once again partnering with Trees Atlanta to sponsor the Front Yard Tree Program. In this partnership, Trees Atlanta will plant up to 80 trees. Homeowners can choose one of five varieties of White oak, Overcup oak, Willow oak, River Birch and Sycamore, all between six and eight feet in height. Trees Atlanta will plant the tree and provide the initial mulching and watering and include a two-year replacement guarantee. Beginning immediately, residents can apply at www.treesatlanta.org/yardtree and select “Brookhaven,” while quantities last. Continuing last year’s promotion, there is no application fee for Brookhaven residents. More info here. Future Brookhaven City Hall project information The future Brookhaven City Hall will be a gathering space for conducting the people’s business, to celebrate as a community, exchange ideas, and serve as a focal point and NorthStar for the City of Brookhaven within the Atlanta metropolitan area. Nancy Creek Road is wrapping up and the new bridge will be open on Saturday, July 1. “I want to thank the residents in all of the neighborhoods along this corridor for being patient and allowing us to install a new, safer bridge for commuters and pedestrians,” said Brookhaven Mayor John Ernst.
