Brookhaven News, Updates and Resources The Brookhaven Blast Brookhaven News, Updates and Resources CITY OF BROOKHAVEN NEWS DeKalb court throws out verdict against Brookhaven’s Mayor, City Manager Ten months after an Appeals Court overturned a verdict against the City of Brookhaven, a DeKalb Superior Court Judge vacated the judgement against Mayor John Ernst and City Manager Christian Sigman in an order for a new trial, following the Court of Appeal’s reversal of the verdict. Brookhaven residents invited to a District 4 town hall on Oct. 17 District 4 Councilman John Funny will host his quarterly district town hall meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 17, at 6 -7:30 p.m., at the new Brookhaven Public Safety Building, 1793 Briarwood Road, in the first-floor courtroom. More info here. Brookhaven children 'pick a playground' Brookhaven children "picked a playground" in an event hosted by Mayor Pro Tem and District 1 Councilwoman Linley Jones this week. The "tiny tot" playground will include a low-to-the-ground slide, a tunnel and tiny gazebos. It will be located on Horseshoe Road, and should be completed in three months, weather permitting. Brookhaven celebrates Hispanic Heritage month with a food truck fiesta Brookhaven's monthly Food Truck Roundup in Blackburn Park featured a fiesta theme this week in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month. The event featured live Salsa music with Son Latino Atlanta and Mexican loteria games and a papel picado workshop by Danceando Promotions. Briarwood Recreation Center to close for park renovations With the Brookhaven City Council’s approval Sept. 12 of one of the final Park Bond construction contracts, Briarwood Recreation Center will close for park renovations beginning Oct. 1. Residents invited to take bicycling survey Brookhaven needs your help to become recognized as a Bicycle Friendly Community (BFC)! The BFC review process is officially underway. Notice of General Election The date of the Municipal Election for the seats of Mayor and Council Districts 1, 2, and 3 is Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2023. More info here. Front Yard Tree Program takes root in Brookhaven Back by popular demand, Brookhaven is once again partnering with Trees Atlanta to sponsor the Front Yard Tree Program.  In this partnership, Trees Atlanta will plant up to 80 trees. Homeowners can choose one of five varieties of White oak, Overcup oak, Willow oak, River Birch and Sycamore, all between six and eight feet in height. Trees Atlanta will plant the tree and provide the initial mulching and watering and include a two-year replacement guarantee. Beginning immediately, residents can apply at www.treesatlanta.org/yardtree and select “Brookhaven,” while quantities last. Continuing last year’s promotion, there is no application fee for Brookhaven residents.  More info here. Future Brookhaven City Hall News & Updates The future Brookhaven City Hall will be a gathering space for conducting the people’s business, to celebrate as a community, exchange ideas, and serve as a focal point and NorthStar for the City of Brookhaven within the Atlanta metropolitan area. The Brookhaven City Hall will be located at the corner of Peachtree Road and North Druid Hills Road on the existing long-term MARTA parking lot. BROOKHAVEN INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL District 4 welcomes inaugural Brookhaven International Festival and 5K, Oct. 21-22 An assortment of cultures will be woven together on Saturday, Oct. 21, and Sunday, Oct. 22, 2023, to create what will be Brookhaven’s annual International Festival along the Peachtree Creek Greenway. This festival will be the City’s first major event along the Buford Highway Cultural Corridor.
