Brookhaven News, Updates and Resources The Brookhaven Blast Brookhaven News, Updates and Resources CITY OF BROOKHAVEN NEWS City approves agreements to purchase remainder of Brookhaven Park for $1 During it’s regular business meeting on April 26, the City of Brookhaven approved a settlement and intergovernmental agreement with DeKalb County that transfers the disputed and contested eastern or front (part physically abutting Peachtree Road) portion of the Park to the City of Brookhaven for $1. The DeKalb County Commission approved the settlement and intergovernmental agreement in its meeting earlier in the day. This Agreement ends the protracted litigation between the City and the County over the land and whether the City could purchase the property for $100 per acre, pursuant to O.C.G.A. § 36-31-11.1, or it had to pay fair market value for the property as the County contended. Brookhaven presents Cherry Blossom 5K check to Children's Healthcare Brookhaven Mayor John Ernst, Mayor Pro Tem and District 1 Councilwoman Linley Jones, District 3 Councilwoman Madeleine Simmons and District 4 Councilman John Funny presented a $6,643 check to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta this week. The funds were proceeds from the Brookhaven Cherry Blossom Festival 5K. While there, our City Council toured the Children's Mission Center, which contains prototypes of hospital rooms that can be adjusted based on medical staff input. Brookhaven Economic Development Director named one of '50 Notable Women' in Georgia engineering list Congratulations to Brookhaven Economic Development Director Shirlynn Fortson on being named a 'Notable Woman' by Engineering Georgia. View a link to the magazine here. Parks Bond News: Murphey Candler Park Horseshoe Road Work on the Park Bond funded Murphey Candler Park Horseshoe Road has started. The road is closed to vehicular and foot traffic during construction. The playground will remain open. ROAD CLOSURES & TRAFFIC ALERTS Partial lane closures at Ashford-Dunwoody and Peachtree intersection project on Saturday, April 30 The contractor for the Peachtree Road/Ashford Dunwoody intersection project will be constructing new storm sewers across Ashford-Dunwoody Road near the intersection of Peachtree on Saturday, April 30. This work will require lane closures with one-half of the roadway closed to traffic, and the other half open with flaggers directing traffic through the construction zone. These lane closures will alternate as the work progresses across the roadway. There will be intermittent closures of the roadway (less than 15 minutes) if needed, to mobilize equipment across the roadway. Steel road plates will be placed over the storm sewer trench after the work is completed. DeKalb Watershed replacing sewer lines in Drew Valley Road area DeKalb County Watershed will be inspecting and replacing sanitary sewer lines on Drew Valley Road and streets intersecting it -- Nesbitt, Poplar Springs, Ewing, Cortez Ln, Thompson Rd, Skyland Trl, Cove Circle, Wawona, and Briarwood Way -- through approximately June. Residents should expect traffic delays as DeKalb contractor Renee Group will be working in the middle of the roads. No roads will be closed and signs and flaggers will be present at all times. The latest updates on Brookhaven's paving progress Appalachee Drive, Cartecay Drive, Cove Circle, and Oaklawn Avenue are just some of the locations that Brookhaven is undertaking road repaving or reconstructions.
