Brookhaven News, Updates and Resources The Brookhaven Blast Brookhaven News, Updates and Resources CITY OF BROOKHAVEN NEWS Major Brookhaven thoroughfare gets an overhaul Patching and potholes no more. At its regular business meeting on April 11, Brookhaven awarded a contract to C. W. Matthews for the repaving of Johnson Ferry Road from the city limits of Sandy Springs to the city limits of Chamblee. The project will be a full depth reclamation, which will require milling approximately 4”-5” of the existing asphalt and then pulverizing the underlying material an additional 13” to 15” and mixing it with Portland Cement to completely rebuild the road from the substrate foundation. More information here. Parks Bond News The Lynwood Park splashpad project is progressing toward completion. The synthetic turf field is complete, and the parking lots will be paved for use during upcoming Lynwood Community Day. The contractor is pushing to have the splashpad, lap pool, and poolhouse complete for opening early this summer. The Brookhaven Park Improvements plans have been permitted by the City and County and will be advertised for contractors to bid within a week. The project will include rebuilding the dog park parking lot and the dog park restrooms/pavilion/patio building. Also, a new larger playground with restrooms and a pavilion are included. The dog park area will be closed during construction. The front parking lot and front half of the park will remain open. The Murphey Candler Park Lake House and Briarwood Park Improvements will both be advertised for contractors to bid this spring and summer. Resident satisfaction survey results The results of Brookhaven's resident satisfaction survey which began in December, 2022, is complete and published. The survey compiled resident feedback on a variety of City services and programs, utilizing a representative statistical sampling of Brookhaven’s population. The aspects of quality of life in the City of Brookhaven that had the highest levels of satisfaction, based upon the combined percentage of “excellent” and “good” responses among residents who had an opinion, were: As a place to live/raise a family: 93% Overall quality of life: 88% As a place to work: 86% Overall image of the City: 83% Overall appearance of the City: 80% Read more here. Creek clean-up at Montclair Elementary Last week, Southeast Stormwater Association (SESWA) members volunteered to clean up the creek behind Montclair Elementary in collaboration with City of Brookhaven stormwater staff. Many thanks to everyone who participated in the clean-up of the creek and took out tires, shopping carts, bottles, and cans, among other items. Recyclable items (metal) were separated from the trash before disposal. More photos here. Spreading the word about Sustainable Brookhaven Mayor John Ernst recently discussed the Sustainable Brookhaven biochar project at the "Economics of Ecology," a Gwinnett Soil & Water Conservation District conference. Applications for the Class of 2024 are now being accepted. The City of Brookhaven will initially provide tuition for five Brookhaven residents to participate in the 2024 Class of Leadership Perimeter. More information here. Front Yard Tree Program takes root in Brookhaven Back by popular demand, Brookhaven is once again partnering with Trees Atlanta to sponsor the Front Yard Tree Program. In this partnership, Trees Atlanta will plant up to 80 trees. Homeowners can choose one of five varieties of White oak, Overcup oak, Willow oak, River Birch and Sycamore, all between six and eight feet in height. Trees Atlanta will plant the tree and provide the initial mulching and watering and include a two-year replacement guarantee. Beginning immediately, residents can apply at www.treesatlanta.org/yardtree and select “Brookhaven,” while quantities last. Continuing last year’s promotion, there is no application fee for Brookhaven residents. More info here. Future Brookhaven City Hall project information The future Brookhaven City Hall will be a gathering space for conducting the people’s business, to celebrate as a community, exchange ideas, and serve as a focal point and NorthStar for the City of Brookhaven within the Atlanta metropolitan area. The Brookhaven City Hall will be located at the corner of Peachtree Road and North Druid Hills Road on the existing long-term MARTA parking lot. Click here f
