The City of Brookhaven announces the 2022 Brookhaven Cherry Blossom Festival, taking place Saturday and Sunday, March 26-27, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., at Blackburn Park, 3493 Ashford Dunwoody Road in Brookhaven. Admission is free. Joan Jett and the Blackhearts are the Saturday, March 26, concert headliner, while Anderson East headlines on Sunday, March 27. Also taking the stage Saturday are Howie Day, Dumpstaphunk, Mike Kinnebrew, and Lady Ban. Drivin N Cryin, Morgan Wade, and Brendan Abernathy join the Sunday lineup. More info on the music lineup and a lineup schedule here. This year’s festival will also bring back favorites such as the Artist Market, Kidz Zone, Pet World, Classic Car Show, and food trucks. Cherry Blossom Festival 5K benefits Children's Healthcare of Atlanta The 2022 Brookhaven Cherry Blossom Festival 5K/1K took place this past weekend at Blackburn Park with more than 150 participants. This year's race benefitted Children's Healthcare of Atlanta and was also USATF-certified for 2022 Peachtree Road Race qualifying. Thank you to everyone who participated! Click here for race results. Brookhaven's Spring newsletter available now The City of Brookhaven's Spring newsletter is available now in English and Spanish, and it's all about the Cherry Blossom Festival taking place March 26 and 27 in Blackburn Park. Park Bond News: Murphey Candler Park Horseshoe Road and Community Green The contract for the Park Bond funded renovation of the Horseshoe Road in Murphey Candler Park was approved by City Council at the March 22 meeting. The contractor will reconstruct the existing road using a process known as Full Depth Reclamation. This process recycles the existing material in-place for a new road base. The new 20’ wide road will follow the same route and be at the same elevation as the existing road. The road will be closed to vehicular and foot traffic during construction. Construction of the new Park Bond funded Community Green is complete. The area will remain fenced off and closed to the public until the Zoysia sod has rooted and is ready for public use. The opening will coincide with completion of the Horseshoe Road this summer. Give feedback on the City Centre Master Plan draft The public is invited to comment through March 25 on the draft of the City Centre Master Plan, which will guide development of a future city center. City Council renews sponsorship of Front Yard Tree Program Back by popular demand, Brookhaven is once again partnering with Trees Atlanta to sponsor the Front Yard Tree Program. In this partnership, Trees Atlanta will plant up to 40 trees (max. 2 per household) in the front yards of Brookhaven residents. Homeowners can choose one of six varieties of oak; Tupelo, River birch, Tulip poplar, American sycamore or Bald cypress, all between six and eight feet in height. Trees Atlanta will plant the tree and provide the initial mulching and watering and include a two-year replacement guarantee. More information here. Brookhaven celebrates Lynwood Park Community Day on May 7 in person again The City of Brookhaven will celebrate its traditional annual Lynwood Park Community Day in person again at Lynwood Park, 3360 Osborne Road, on Saturday, May 7, from noon to 6 p.m. “For the first time since 2019, Lynwood Community Day will be held in person. The Lynwood Park Community Day celebration has become a beloved tradition over the last four decades, attracting hundreds of participants not only from our community, but from surrounding areas as many have ties to this historic neighborhood,” said Mayor Pro Tempore and District 1 Councilwoman Linley Jones. “We are so excited to be able to celebrate Lynwood Community Day in person again this year.” More information here.
