Brookhaven News, Updates and Resources The Brookhaven Blast Brookhaven News, Updates and Resources CITY OF BROOKHAVEN NEWS Light Up Brookhaven 2023 returns to kick off the holidays A gift-wrapped evening of Christmas magic, all merry and bright, will launch the holiday season in Brookhaven at this year’s Light Up Brookhaven planned for Wednesday, Dec. 6 in Blackburn Park, 3493 Ashford Dunwoody Road from 6-9 p.m. The fun-filled event will be packed with holiday-themed activities including food, music, and giveaways leading up to the dramatic arrival of Santa, once again via the Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta helicopter, followed by the lighting of the City’s dazzling 40’ Christmas tree, Hanukah Menorah and dreidel. Brookhaven considers 2024 Budget Brookhaven City Manager Christian Sigman submitted the Administration’s recommended 2024 Proposed General Budget to the Mayor and City Council for consideration before adoption on Nov. 28. The 2.74 millage rate for operations remains one of the lowest residential municipal rates in DeKalb County. The rate has not increased since the City’s incorporation in December 2012. Multimodal Study public input period extended to March 2024 Due to a high volume of community feedback regarding Brookhaven’s Multimodal Study, the public input process has been extended through March 1, 2024. The Multimodal Study will serve as an update to the City’s first Bicycle, Pedestrian, and Trail Plan, which was adopted in 2016. The plan examined existing conditions and identified locations where improvements for bicyclists and pedestrians were most needed with an expanded multimodal focus. More info here. Peachtree Creek Greenway parking lot closed for I-85 @ North Druid Hills project The Peachtree Greenway parking lot at North Druid Hills is closed through Nov. 26 to allow repairs to the sanitary sewer line that runs under the parking lot. Starting Dec. 4, the I-85 at North Druid Hills project team will temporarily close the entrance point at 2036 North Druid Hills Road, allowing no access for public use in this location. Greenway patrons will be able to park at the other trailheads at 1801 Corporate Blvd. and 1793 Briarwood Road. Briarwood Recreation Center closed for park renovations With the Brookhaven City Council’s approval Sept. 12 of one of the final Park Bond construction contracts, Briarwood Recreation Center is closed for park renovations. The rec center is closed until late spring for parking lot and stormwater work. The Briarwood Way entrance is permanently closed. Enter the park through the main entrance on Briarwood Road. During construction, the park drive will be closed below the tennis courts. The playground and tennis courts will remain open during construction. Glass recycling now available at the Public Safety Building With Briarwood Park undergoing renovations, glass recycling is now available in the parking lot of the new Public Safety Building, located at 1793 Briarwood Road. Future Brookhaven City Hall News & Updates The future Brookhaven City Hall will be a gathering space for conducting the people’s business, to celebrate as a community, exchange ideas, and serve as a focal point and NorthStar for the City of Brookhaven within the Atlanta metropolitan area. The Brookhaven City Hall will be located at the corner of Peachtree Road and North Druid Hills Road on the existing long-term MARTA parking lot. PARKS & RECREATION PROGRAMS ROAD CLOSURES & ALERTS The Georgia Department of Transportation is working on improvements to reduce crash frequency and congestion at the intersection of I-85 at SR 42/North Druid Hills Road and replace the bridge over Peachtree Creek in DeKalb County. Storm sewer replacement to restrict traffic on Victor Road and Dunwoody Trail An upcoming storm sewer rehabilitation/replacement project is slated on Victor Road from Dunwoody Place to and across Dunwoody Trail that will restrict Victor Road to one-lane access beginning Oct. 30, and close Dunwoody
