Brookhaven News, Updates and Resources The Brookhaven Blast Brookhaven News, Updates and Resources CITY OF BROOKHAVEN NEWS Brookhaven celebrates Juneteenth at Lynwood Park The City of Brookhaven celebrated its first official Juneteenth event this past weekend at Lynwood Park. The Mayor, Council and community came together to celebrate the historical significance of this date and the resilience of the African American community with live music, food, and other special performances. Parks Bond News: Murphey Candler Park Multiuse Trail on Dam The construction contract for the Parks Bond funded MCP Multiuse Trail on Dam project was awarded at the June 14, 2022, City Council meeting. The project will replace the existing 5’ wide sidewalk that crosses the MCP dam on the north side of W Nancy Creek Drive with a 11’ wide sidewalk. The new sidewalk will have seven 6’ wide x 30’ long observation decks overlooking the lake with benches and railing. During construction, park trail walkers will be detoured across the street to use the sidewalk on the south side of the dam, or through the baseball/softball complex, or down to the South Trail. Brookhaven Annual Report features 2021's accomplishments It’s City of Brookhaven Annual Report time! The 2021 edition looks back at last year’s highlights as we continued to overcome the challenges of the pandemic. We won national awards, made major improvements to our roads and parks, and hosted a successful Brookhaven Cherry Blossom Festival Summer Block Party. This month we are highlighting pages from the Annual Report on our Facebook and Instagram pages @BrookhavenGAgov and @CiudadDeBrookhaven. And pay attention- there will be a fun online quiz to take with prizes courtesy of our partners at Explore Brookhaven. City of Brookhaven pools open for the summer Keep cool this summer at one of the City of Brookhaven’s municipal pools or splash pad. The pools are located at: Murphey Candler Park, 1551 W, Nancy Creek Drive, and Briarwood Park, 2235 Briarwood Way NE. The splash pad is located at Ashford Park, 2980 Redding Road. The Lynwood Park pools is closed this summer as construction is underway on a new pool, pool house and splash pad. Details here. UPCOMING CITY EVENTS & MEETINGS Brookhaven to hold public hearings for 2022 millage rate Residents are encouraged to attend upcoming public hearings for the 2022 millage rate. Anyone who wants to attend and or participate can do so in person or virtually via Zoom. The first meeting was held Tuesday, June 14, with upcoming meetings scheduled for June 28 at 10:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. at City Hall at 4362 Peachtree Road, Brookhaven. Agenda and zoom access information can be found here. After the final public hearing, the millage rate will be formally adopted at the June 28, 2022, meeting at 7 p.m. More information here. ROAD CLOSURES & TRAFFIC ALERTS Osborne Road lane closure: June 27-30 The southbound lane on Osborne Road to the north and south of Fuller Road will be closed from Monday, June 27, to Thursday, June 30 for the removal of trees in the Right of Way. Cones and signage will be in place. Motorists are encouraged to exercise caution. The latest updates on Brookhaven's paving progress Appalachee Drive, Cartecay Drive, Cove Circle, and Oaklawn Avenue are just some of the locations that Brookhaven is undertaking road repaving or reconstructions. PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENTS Food pantry open at Latin American Association To receive food or make a contribution you must make an appointment. Those interested can call the LAA at 404-639-1839.
