Brookhaven News, Updates and Resources  The Brookhaven Blast Brookhaven News, Updates and Resources CITY OF BROOKHAVEN NEWS Ribbon cutting and family show set on the Community Green The public is invited to join Mayor John Ernst and Mayor Pro Tempore Linley Jones for a special presentation and ribbon cutting for the Community Green at 4455 Candler Lake East in Murphey Candler Park. The event will be held Thursday, Sept. 29, at 5 p.m. The brief ceremony marks the official completion of the Community Green project, as well as the completion of the North Boardwalk across Murphey Candler Lake. Following the ribbon cutting, there will be a performance geared for families by Michael Levine, co-founder of The Learning Groove music and movement company. Read more here. Murphey Candler Dam integrity project gets underway Taking advantage of low lake levels from the ongoing Multiuse Trail on Dam project, the City of Brookhaven is taking aim to make improvements and perform necessary maintenance on the low water drain and spillway. “It is a perfect time to update the safety mechanisms that protect the lake and the residents who enjoy it,” said Public Works Deputy Director Tom Roberts. The Brookhaven Public Works Department is currently soliciting bids for the work. Bids are due on Sept. 27, and the contract will be awarded by the Brookhaven City Council at its Oct. 25 meeting. Brookhaven celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month The City of Brookhaven kicked off Hispanic Heritage Month with a celebration along the Peachtree Creek Greenway that included a pinata workshop, face painting, Mrs. Rosa's Latin Kitchen Food Truck, and a showing of the movie "Vivo." Brookhaven City Attorney Chris Balch wins IMLA Award City Attorney Chris Balch, the chief legal officer for the City of Brookhaven has been recognized by the International Municipal Lawyers Association (IMLA) for the Marvin J. ROAD CLOSURES & TRAFFIC ALERTS Emergency Bridge/Road Closure on W. Nancy Creek Drive Effective immediately, the bridge near 1243 W. Nancy Creek Drive in Brookhaven is closed to vehicular and pedestrian traffic. On Friday, July 1, GDOT engineers discovered severe structural issues with the bridge while conducting a routine inspection. Click here for updates. COVID-19 UPDATES & RESOURCES Brookhaven closings, cancellations and resources The City of Brookhaven has established a website listing Brookhaven closings, cancellations, testing sites, and resources relating to the COVID-19 pandemic at www.BrookhavenGA.gov/covid19 COVID-19 testing & vaccination site open in Northeast Plaza on Buford Highway ****VACCINES FOR KIDS NOW AVAILABLE! COVID Care Georgia is now offering vaccinations and boosters for everyone ages 5+**** As part of Brookhaven’s ongoing commitment to the health and safety of its residents, a COVID testing and vaccination site is now open at Northeast Plaza, 3371 Buford Highway, in Brookhaven.  The new testing site, also staffed by COVID Care Georgia, will be open from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. every weekday except Wednesday, and from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. on weekends. The site can accommodate drive-up and walk-up customers and medical assistants on site can administer tests to people ages six months and older. The site is located near the movie theater in Northeast Plaza, and the testing is at no cost to the insured or uninsured.  More info here.
