Brookhaven News, Updates and Resources  The Brookhaven Blast Brookhaven News, Updates and Resources CITY OF BROOKHAVEN NEWS Brookhaven celebrates Juneteenth The City of Brookhaven's second Juneteenth celebration was filled with empowering speeches, beautiful music, and inspiring storytelling as the community gathered and celebrated the historical significance of this day. This year's program marked the official unveiling of the Historic Lynwood Park Monument signs and a special Cross Keys High School tribute to the Lynwood Trailblazers.  Mayor Pro Tempore and District 1 Councilwoman Linley Jones was presented with an honorary plaque from the Lynwood Park Foundation for her support of the Lynwood Park community. Summer edition of Brookhaven City News available now The Summer edition of Brookhaven City News is available in English and Spanish. Brookhaven holding public hearings for 2023 millage rate Residents are encouraged to attend upcoming public hearings for the 2023 millage rate. Anyone who wants to attend and or participate can do so in person or virtually via Zoom. A public hearing was held Tuesday, June 13, with two more scheduled for Wednesday, June 28, at 10:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. at City Hall at 4362 Peachtree Road, Brookhaven. More info here. Brookhaven Parks & Recreation Summer Activity Guide available now Brookhaven Parks and Recreation Department's Summer Activity Guide is available for download now in English and Spanish. To have a copy mailed to your home, email News@BrookhavenGa.gov Front Yard Tree Program takes root in Brookhaven Back by popular demand, Brookhaven is once again partnering with Trees Atlanta to sponsor the Front Yard Tree Program.  In this partnership, Trees Atlanta will plant up to 80 trees. Homeowners can choose one of five varieties of White oak, Overcup oak, Willow oak, River Birch and Sycamore, all between six and eight feet in height. Trees Atlanta will plant the tree and provide the initial mulching and watering and include a two-year replacement guarantee. Beginning immediately, residents can apply at www.treesatlanta.org/yardtree and select “Brookhaven,” while quantities last. Continuing last year’s promotion, there is no application fee for Brookhaven residents.  More info here. Future Brookhaven City Hall project information The future Brookhaven City Hall will be a gathering space for conducting the people’s business, to celebrate as a community, exchange ideas, and serve as a focal point and NorthStar for the City of Brookhaven within the Atlanta metropolitan area. The Brookhaven City Hall will be located at the corner of Peachtree Road and North Druid Hills Road on the existing long-term MARTA parking lot. Click here for more information. ROAD CLOSURES & ALERTS Peachtree Road resurfacing project begins in DeKalb from Fulton County line to I-285 Contractors for the Georgia Dept. of Transportation (GDOT) have begun a resurfacing project on Peachtree Road from the Fulton/DeKalb County line to I-285 in DeKalb.    Traffic on /Peachtree Road may be impacted by overnight and weekend lane closures related to this project. This project is scheduled for completion in Q1 2024, weather and on-site conditions permitting. Lanier Drive scheduled for storm sewer repair Lanier Drive at 3188 Lanier is scheduled for storm sewer repair and will require closing the road. The schedule of the storm sewer work is Monday, June 26, through July 21, 2023 (weather permitting the critical components of the work). More information at www.BrookhavenGA.gov/PublicWorks East Osborne Road closed May 30-Sept. 30 Empire Communities has begun construction of the underground infrastructure on Caldwell Road near E Osborne and on E Osborne between Apple Valley and Caldwell Rd to support development of the new Mackintosh townhome community. This may require intermittent closures / lane closures on Caldwell Road. Beginning May 30, E Osborne Road will have a long-term closure through Sept. 30, weather permitting, as underground utilities, sidewalks, multi-use paths, and other streetscape amenities, including the reconstruction of E Osborne Road between Apple Valley and Caldwell, are constructed. Please make plans to avoid this section of E Osborne. All address
