Brookhaven community celebrates MLK Day Thanks to everyone who helped make our annual MLK Day Dinner & Celebration a success. The annual event recognizes the Lynwood Trailblazers, who attended the previously segregated Lynwood School, now the City's Lynwood Recreation Center, and who bravely entered the DeKalb County School System following desegregation. The event is hosted by District 1 Councilwoman and Mayor Pro Tem Linley Jones. The event included keynote speaker Ramando Davidson, executive recreation director for Atlanta and native of Lynwood Park; musical guests EJ and the Versatiles, Aaliyah Guthrie, Rev. Richard Pledger, and the Lynwood Park Community Choir; Pastor Reginald RJ Williams and Pastor Lackey; and WSB's Mark Winne as master of ceremonies. The event also included a special recognition of Cassandra Bryant, a longtime resident of Lynwood Park and recreation leader at Brookhaven Parks and Recreation Department, who helps organize this event and others throughout the year, for her continued support of the community. See more photos here. Brookhaven seeks public input on City Hall design The City of Brookhaven is seeking public input on the look of its future City Hall. Residents are encouraged to take part in a survey to gauge their visual design preferences. The survey asks questions about residents’ architectural and artistic preferences, as well as preferred dining options and how an open public space should be utilized, among other items. Public input will be integrated into a final document that will offer inspiration and guidance to the Brookhaven City Council on the building’s ultimate design. The survey will be open through the end of January. “I strongly encourage residents to get involved in this process,” said Mayor John Ernst. “This building is for the community and should stand for Brookhaven for decades to come and will represent the City in a physical form. This is your chance to tell the architect what you think Brookhaven looks like.” More information here.
