Brookhaven News, Updates and Resources  The Brookhaven Blast Brookhaven News, Updates and Resources CITY OF BROOKHAVEN NEWS Buford Highway designated a 'Cultural Corridor' On Friday, representatives from the Brookhaven City Council, Brookhaven Arts and Culture Commission, We Love Buhi, and the Latin American Association officially presented the designation of Buford Highway as a “Buford Highway Cultural Corridor” to highlight the rich cultural diversity, traditions, and unique character of this area. Mayor and Council share vision for 2022 At this week's Brookhaven Chamber of Commerce luncheon, Mayor John Ernst and the Brookhaven City Council shared their vision for 2022, including items such as greenspace, parks, traffic, transit, Buford Highway, the future Public Safety Building, and more. Registration open for 2022 Brookhaven Cherry Blossom 5K Registration is now open for the 2022 Brookhaven Cherry Blossom Festival 5K/1K, taking place Saturday, March 19, at 7:30 a.m. at Blackburn Park, 3493 Ashford Dunwoody Road. This year’s 5K, which is both USATF-certified for 2022 Peachtree Road Race qualifying and a fundraiser for Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, will take runners through Brookhaven’s Blackburn Park. Details and registration information here. 2022 Brookhaven Cherry Blossom Festival: March 26-27 The City of Brookhaven announces the 2022 Brookhaven Cherry Blossom Festival, taking place Saturday and Sunday, March 26-27, at Blackburn Park, 3493 Ashford Dunwoody Road in Brookhaven. Admission is free. Joan Jett and the Blackhearts are the Saturday, March 26, concert headliner, while Anderson East headlines on Sunday, March 27. Also taking the stage Saturday are Howie Day, Dumpstaphunk, Mike Kinnebrew, and Kaylin Amaro. Drivin N Cryin, Morgan Wade, and Brendan Abernathy join the Sunday lineup. This year’s festival will also bring back favorites such as the Artists’ Market, Kidz Zone, Pet World, Classic Car Show, and food trucks. The Brookhaven Cherry Blossom 5K will take place on Saturday, March 19. Brookhaven hosting virtual public forum for Dresden Drive improvements Join the City of Brookhaven for a virtual public forum for the Dresden Drive Intersection Improvement Analysis on Thursday, March 3, from 7 to 8 p.m. Following an initial virtual forum on July 13, 2021, and an open house at City Hall on Sept. 29, 2021, the information presented during this meeting is part of a revised approach to the project after receiving feedback from the community. City of Brookhaven offices closed Presidents Day City of Brookhaven administrative offices will be closed Monday, Feb. 21, for Presidents Day and will reopen on Tuesday, Feb. 22, at 8:30 a.m. Brookhaven's MLK Day program rescheduled for Feb. 26 Brookhaven’s MLK Day Dinner and Program has been rescheduled for Saturday, Feb. 26, at noon at the Brookhaven MARTA station parking lot, 1268 Apple Valley Road NE. City Council renews sponsorship of Front Yard Tree Program Back by popular demand, Brookhaven is once again partnering with Trees Atlanta to sponsor the Front Yard Tree Program.  In this partnership, Trees Atlanta will plant up to 40 trees (max. 2 per household) in the front yards of Brookhaven residents. Homeowners can choose one of six varieties of oak; Tupelo, River birch, Tulip poplar, American sycamore or Bald cypress, all between six and eight feet in height. Trees Atlanta will plant the tree and provide the initial mulching and watering and include a two-year replacement guarantee. More information here.
