Winners must live in the City of Brookhaven.*** PCG trailhead closed through Monday The Peachtree Creek Greenway (PCG) trailhead at 1793 Briarwood Road is closed for the purpose of resurfacing the parking lot and will reopen on Monday, July 18. The PCG itself will remain open and accessible from the Corporate Square and North Druid Hills trailheads. Brookhaven appreciates everyone’s patience and support as we make this improvement to this area. Parks Bond News: Murphey Candler Park Multiuse Trail on Dam Work has started on the Parks Bond funded MCP Multiuse Trail on Dam project in Murphey Candler Park. The project will replace the existing 5’ wide sidewalk that crosses the MCP dam on the north side of W Nancy Creek Drive with a 11’ wide sidewalk. The new sidewalk will have seven 6’ wide x 30’ long observation decks overlooking the lake with benches and railing. During construction, park trail users can detour across the street to use the sidewalk on the south side of the dam, or go through the baseball/softball complex, or go down to the South Trail. Crews will begin lowering the water level on Murphey Candler Lake beginning Monday, July 18 in order for construction to continue on the south multi use trail on the dam. While the water reduction will be nearly 3 feet, so residents will notice substantial additional exposed shoreline. When construction is complete, the lake will be returned to its normal pool. Brookhaven Deputy Chief completes executive training in Israel Deputy Police Chief Brandon Gurley has returned from Israel after an intensive two weeks of public safety leadership training with the country’s top police executives. Dep. Chief Gurley was part of a 16-member delegation including eight Georgia police chiefs and command staff, four Georgia sheriffs, the director of the Atlanta-Carolinas High Intensity Drug Trafficking Areas Program, an inspector with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, a captain in the Georgia State Patrol and a senior law enforcement official from Tennessee. The delegates partnered with the Israel Police for the Georgia International Law Enforcement Exchange’s (GILEE) 29th annual Peer-to-Peer Executive Training Program. Full story here. A sweet treat in Town Brookhaven The Brookhaven Chamber of Commerce and City officials formally welcomed Kilwins to Town Brookhaven this week. City of Brookhaven pools open for the summer Keep cool this summer at one of the City of Brookhaven’s municipal pools or splash pad. The pools are located at: Murphey Candler Park, 1551 W, Nancy Creek Drive, and Briarwood Park, 2235 Briarwood Way NE. The splash pad is located at Ashford Park, 2980 Redding Road. The Lynwood Park pools is closed this summer as construction is underway on a new pool, pool house and splash pad. Details here. Volunteers needed for Storm Drain Marker event on Aug. 6 The City of Brookhaven’s Stormwater Division is seeking participants for its annual Storm Drain Marker Volunteer Event on Saturday, Aug. 6, from 8 to 11 a.m. Volunteers will park and meet at the Lynwood Park Recreation Center, 3360 Osborne Road. Volunteers may RSVP by emailing Stormwater@BrookhavenGA.gov. RSVPs are appreciated but not required; walkups are welcome. More info here. ROAD CLOSURES & TRAFFIC ALERTS UPDATE: Emergency Bridge/Road Closure on W. Nancy Creek Drive ***UPDATE JULY 12, 2022: Based on an evaluation of the bridge by a structural engineer, it has been determined the bridge needs to be replaced. Estimated time frame for this work is 12 months. Work will require the relocation of a gas line and a waterline which could impact schedule. The new bridge will include improved pedestrian facilities.*** Effective immediately, the bridge near 1243 W. Nancy Creek Drive in Brookhaven is closed to
