Park Bond Program Project Updates The Murphey Candler Park North Boardwalk is progressing across the northern end of the lake. The top down construction method allows the contractor to move forward by working off the deck of the boardwalk they have just completed. It also eliminates disturbance to the ground and wetlands. The project is scheduled to be finished this summer. Demolition is complete and grading is progressing on the Lynwood Park splashpad project. Work on the stormwater system, sanitary sewer, underground detention, and poolhouse footings is planned to begin this month. The project is scheduled to be complete at the end of 2022 for the splashpad and pool to be ready for Summer 2023. A contractor has been selected for the Murphey Candler Park scout hut demolition. The project is part of the voter approved Parks Bond Program. Work will begin within weeks to install required erosion control measures before demo can begin. The actual demo and removal of debris will only take a few days. The work area will be fenced to provide safety for park users and ball players and families. The area will be temporarily graded to drain in anticipation of the parking lot expansion for the Lake House. The Murphey Candler Park Kiwanis Serves monument will remain in place within a Lake House parking lot island. City Council renews sponsorship of Front Yard Tree Program Back by popular demand, Brookhaven is once again partnering with Trees Atlanta to sponsor the Front Yard Tree Program. In this partnership, Trees Atlanta will plant up to 40 trees (max. 2 per household) in the front yards of Brookhaven residents. Homeowners can choose one of six varieties of oak; Tupelo, River birch, Tulip poplar, American sycamore or Bald cypress, all between six and eight feet in height. ROAD CLOSURES & TRAFFIC ALERTS Partial lane closures at Ashford-Dunwoody and Peachtree intersection project on Saturday, April 23 The contractor for the Peachtree Road/Ashford Dunwoody intersection project will be constructing new storm sewers across Ashford-Dunwoody Road near the intersection of Peachtree on Saturday, April 23. This work will require lane closures with one-half of the roadway closed to traffic, and the other half open with flaggers directing traffic through the construction zone. These lane closures will alternate as the work progresses across the roadway. There will be intermittent closures of the roadway (less than 15 minutes) if needed, to mobilize equipment across the roadway. Steel road plates will be placed over the storm sewer trench after the work is completed. This work schedule is weather dependent and may change accordingly. DeKalb Watersh
