Brookhaven News, Updates and Resources  The Brookhaven Blast Brookhaven News, Updates and Resources CITY OF BROOKHAVEN NEWS Lynwood Community Day celebrates community heritage The 42nd Annual Lynwood Park Community Day last weekend celebrated Lynwood Park’s community heritage and its contributions to the City of Brookhaven. During the festivities, Mayor Pro Tem and District 1 Councilwoman Linley Jones was recognized by the Lynnwood Park Foundation for her advocacy for the historic community. Brookhaven celebrates Cinco de Mayo The City of Brookhaven joined Plaza Fiesta in celebrating Cinco de Mayo. The City gave out prizes to residents including picnic baskets courtesy of Explore Brookhaven. Park Bond News: Brookhaven Park progress The City acquired the front half of Brookhaven Park from DeKalb County at the April 26, 2022, City Council meeting. Improvements to the park began immediately along Osborne Road and Peachtree Road. The old fence was removed and landscaping was cleaned-up. A new Brookhaven Park sign will be erected showing it is a City park. Design and permitting for Parks Bond improvements have restarted for construction to start in late 2022 or early 2023. DeKalb's recycling, yard trimmings pick-up delayed DeKalb Sanitation's North Collection Lot is running behind on this week’s recycling and yard trimmings collection. DeKalb's goal is to service affected households by this weekend, working extended hours Friday and Saturday.. ROAD CLOSURES & TRAFFIC ALERTS Ashford-Dunwoody Road/Peachtree Road Intersection Improvement Construction Status Update for Week of May 16 The contractor for the improvements at the intersection of Peachtree Road and Ashford Dunwoody Road will be working along Peachtree Road during the week of May 16. Work will include the demolition of the existing sidewalk along the westbound lane and preliminary grading in preparation for the proposed right turn lane work in the forthcoming weeks. This work will require a lane closure of the outside westbound lane (from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.) Monday and Tuesday (weather permitting) to allow equipment to be safely operated. Flaggers and traffic control will be utilized for direction to the traveling public. Intermittent lane closures may occur throughout the week, as necessary for the demo and grading. While a closure of the intersection is not required, it is recommended vehicular traffic utilize alternate routes such as Lanier Drive to Windsor Parkway to Ashford Dunwoody Road or Johnson Ferry Road from Peachtree Road. DeKalb Watershed replacing sewer lines in Drew Valley Road area DeKalb County Watershed will be inspecting and replacing sanitary sewer lines on Drew Valley Road and streets intersecting it -- Nesbitt, Poplar Springs, Ewing, Cortez Ln, Thompson Rd, Skyland Trl, Cove Circle, Wawona, and Briarwood Way -- through approximately June. Residents should expect traffic delays as DeKalb contractor Renee Group will be working in the middle of the roads. No roads will be closed and signs and flaggers will be present at all times.   The latest updates on Brookhaven's paving progress Appalachee Drive, Cartecay Drive, Cove Circle, and Oaklawn Avenue are just some of the locations that Brookhaven is undertaking road repaving or reconstructions.
