Brookhaven News, Updates and Resources The Brookhaven Blast Brookhaven News, Updates and Resources CITY OF BROOKHAVEN NEWS Brookhaven swears in elected officials The City of Brookhaven began the new year this week with the swearing in ceremony for Mayor John Park, District 1 Councilmember Michael Diaz, District 2 Councilmember Jennifer Owens and District 3 Councilmember Madeleine Simmons. Additionally, District 4 Councilmember John Funny was named Mayor Pro Tempore. City offices closed for MLK Day City of Brookhaven administrative offices will be closed Monday, Jan. 15, for Martin Luther King Jr. Day and will reopen Tuesday, Jan. 16, at 8:30 a.m. Multimodal Study public input period extended to March 2024 Due to a high volume of community feedback regarding Brookhaven’s Multimodal Study, the public input process has been extended through March 1, 2024. The Multimodal Study will serve as an update to the City’s first Bicycle, Pedestrian, and Trail Plan, which was adopted in 2016. The plan examined existing conditions and identified locations where improvements for bicyclists and pedestrians were most needed with an expanded multimodal focus. More info here. Briarwood Recreation Center closed for park renovations With the Brookhaven City Council’s approval Sept. 12 of one of the final Park Bond construction contracts, Briarwood Recreation Center is closed for park renovations. The rec center is closed until late spring for parking lot and stormwater work. The Briarwood Way entrance is permanently closed. Enter the park through the main entrance on Briarwood Road. During construction, the park drive will be closed below the tennis courts. The playground and tennis courts will remain open during construction. Coming soon: MCP Stream Restoration Project Open House & Exhibit 7:00 PM, January 24, 2024 at Murphey Cander Park (exact location TBD) Come join us as we discuss the details of the City’s latest Sustainable Brookhaven project, the Stream Restoration of N Fork Nancy Creek above Murphey Candler Lake. The meeting will be January 24 at 7 p.m. at Murphey Candler Park (exact location TBD) Partially funded by an EPA 319(h) Water Quality Cost-Share Grant, the project will stabilize the banks and course of the creek and create new habitat for animals, birds, reptiles, fish, and smaller marine life. Ultimately, the project will improve water quality in Murphey Candler Lake and beyond while providing a diverse cross-section of native species habitats. Hundreds of similar projects have been designed and completed by our expert Stream Restoration design team throughout the Southeast and will be on hand to highlight project features. Future Brookhaven City Hall News & Updates The future Brookhaven City Hall will be a gathering space for conducting the people’s business, to celebrate as a community, exchange ideas, and serve as a focal point and NorthStar for the City of Brookhaven within the Atlanta metropolitan area. The Brookhaven City Hall will be located at the corner of Peachtree Road and North Druid Hills Road on the existing long-term MARTA parking lot. CHERRY BLOSSOM FESTIVAL - MARCH 23 & 24 +Live+ and Barenaked Ladies to headline Cherry Blossom concert The City of Brookhaven announces the bands +Live+ and Barenaked Ladies as the concert headliners for the 2024 Brookhaven Cherry Blossom Festival, taking place Saturday and Sunday, March 23-24, at Blackburn Park, 3493 Ashford Dunwoody Road in Brookhaven. Admission is free. In addition to the music, this year’s festival brings back favorites such as the Splash Artists’ Market, Kidz Zone, Pet World, Classic Car Show, and Food Trucks. The Brookhaven Cherry Blossom 5K will take place on Saturday, March 16.
