Improvements will include a new playground, Bocce Ball court, sheltered pavilion, and walking trails. Work should be completed next summer. Brookhaven Council adopts City Centre Master Plan Following over a year and a half of public input opportunities, the Brookhaven City Council adopted the City Centre Master Plan with amendments during its Aug. 9 meeting. “I want to thank our residents who participated in the City Centre process and gave their input for this important planning initiative,” said Brookhaven Mayor John Ernst. “With the announcement of a future permanent City Hall at the Brookhaven MARTA Station, and the adoption of this plan, I’m excited to see what the future holds for Brookhaven.” Read more here. Brookhaven residents can adopt pets at no charge Adding a dog or a cat to the family just got a little easier in the City of Brookhaven. At its regular business meeting on Aug. 9, the Brookhaven City Council approved a memorandum of understanding with LifeLine Animal Project (LifeLine), which operates the DeKalb County Animal Shelter in one of Brookhaven’s suburbs. The agreement is the first sponsorship of this magnitude with a municipality. In the agreement, LifeLine agrees to provide pets for adoption to Brookhaven residents at no charge, following LifeLine’s regular adoption application and contract requirements. Decorative Crosswalk Pilot Program RFQ now open The City of Brookhaven, in collaboration with the Arts and Culture Commission and Lynwood Park Civic Association, has released a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) to identify qualified artist(s) to create an innovative crosswalk design to be installed at the newly constructed roundabout located at the intersection of Windsor Parkway and Osborne Road in Lynwood Park. Details of the RFQ, including how to submit qualifications and the selection process are available using this QR code: Interested artists have until 4 p.m. (EST) on Thursday, September 8, 2022, to submit their qualifications. ROAD CLOSURES & TRAFFIC ALERTS Windsor Parkway Road Closure Dekalb Watershed is conducting an emergency repair/road closure on Windsor Parkway between Mae Avenue and Osborne Road. Work will continue on Saturday and possibly through Thursday next week to complete the repairs of the sanitary sewer and the road. Traffic is being diverted to Hermance Drive and Osborne Road. The work will occur between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. each day. Emergency Bridge/Road Closure on W. Nancy Creek Drive Effective immediately, the bridge near 1243 W. Nancy Creek Drive in Brookhaven is closed to vehicular and pedestrian traffic. On Friday, July 1, GDOT engineers discovered severe structural issues with the bridge while conducting a routine inspection. Click here for updates.
