Brookhaven News, Updates and Resources The Brookhaven Blast Brookhaven News, Updates and Resources CITY OF BROOKHAVEN NEWS Thousands enjoy Brookhaven Cherry Blossom Festival this past weekend Around 48,000 residents, neighbors and out-of-towners enjoyed Brookhaven's Cherry Blossom Festival this past weekend. Kicking off the festivities was a ribbon-cutting in remembrance of the late former Mayor Rebecca Chase Williams, who founded the festival. Her daughters Clare and Chase joined Mayor Pro Tem Linley Jones in the special remembrance. Highlights included musical performances from Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, Anderson East, Drivin N Cryin, Howie Day, Dumpstaphunk, Morgan Wade and more. This year’s festival also included the return of favorites such as the Artist Market, Kidz Zone, Pet World, Classic Car Show, and food trucks. Brookhaven hosting Easter Egg-straveganzas After a two-year Coronavirus hiatus, Peter Rabbit returns heading to Brookhaven for a series of fun events for families. On Saturday, April 9 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. the Eggstraordinary Easter Egg Hunt will be held at Lynwood Park, 3360 Osborne Road. This event will provide special considerations for visually and hearing-impaired youngsters as well as those in wheelchairs and children who are sensory-sensitive. On Saturday, April 9 at 2 p.m., another special event, the Dog Gone Easter Egg Hunt will be held at the Blackburn Park Softball Fields, 3493 Ashford Dunwoody Road. The Dog Gone Easter Egg Hunt is for all residents and their fur babies. Specially prepared Easter eggs, containing pet treats, will be hidden throughout the dog run. On Saturday, April 16 beginning at 10 a.m. sharp, the annual Easter Egg Scramble will be open to all Brookhaven youngsters, at Blackburn Park, 3493 Ashford Dunwoody Road. The Easter Egg Scramble will feature food trucks offering breakfast fare at reasonable prices, and the Easter Bunny will be on hand again to pose for photos. Egg hunters will be split into age groups (3 and under; 4-6, and 7+) with separate areas for each. More info here. Brookhaven hosting open house for Dresden Drive improvements Join the City of Brookhaven for an opportunity to view and provide feedback on draft recommendations and considerations for the Dresden Drive Intersection Improvement Study. City Council renews sponsorship of Front Yard Tree Program Back by popular demand, Brookhaven is once again partnering with Trees Atlanta to sponsor the Front Yard Tree Program. In this partnership, Trees Atlanta will plant up to 40 trees (max. 2 per household) in the front yards of Brookhaven residents. Homeowners can choose one of six varieties of oak; Tupelo, River birch, Tulip poplar, American sycamore or Bald cypress, all between six and eight feet in height. Trees Atlanta will plant the tree and provide the initial mulching and watering and include a two-year replacement guarantee. More information here.
